TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) The Magic Valley Regional Airport was the scene of an active shooter that took passengers of an airplane hostage as part of a training exercise.
Police, fire, paramedics, airport staff and others took part in the training Thursday morning. The scenario involved a person with a handgun that shot an airport employee, stormed an aircraft, took hostages, and was eventually shot by a SWAT team. A latter drill practiced a hostage negotiation scenario that ended peacefully.
Airport Manager Bill Carberry said the Federal Aviation Administration requires airports to hold a training every three years to practice for these types of events and others. The last training involved a crashed aircraft with passenger. Carberry says they try to keep it as authentic as possible.
