Anirban Lahiri eyes US PGA Championship high after British Open golf low

Anirban Lahiri of India will be making his fourth US PGA Championship appearance. He failed to make the cut in the British Open golf championship last month.

Anirban Lahiri will be looking to overturn his poor British Open golf performance when he tees off at the 99th US PGA championship at Quail Hollow with heavy rain and storms in the forecast in North Carolina.

Anirban Lahiri, who failed to make the cut at the The Open Championship earlier last month, will be making his fourth PGA Championship appearance. He is placed in a group alongside Danny Lee from New Zealand and Mark Leishman from Australia.

Lahiri will be teeing off at a ranking of 74 in the world. Anirban Lahiri previously has recorded the best ever finish for an Indian golfer at the PGA Championships in 2015 when he finished fifth.

Jordan Spieth who won a maiden Open Championship at the Royal Birkdale last month will be entering the competition with the hope to become youngest golfer to complete a career grand slam.

Spieth would be 24 years and 17 days old on Sunday, about six months younger than Tiger Woods — the youngest to win all four majors so far — was when he won the 2000 Open to complete his career slam.

Spieth will play alongside fellow reigning Major champions Sergio Garcia of Spain, who captured his first Major title at the Masters this year, and American Brooks Koepka, the US Open winner, in the first two rounds.

Rory McIlroy is expected to be a contender for a third Wanamaker Trophy after wins in 2012 and 2014. That would put him fourth on the all-time list behind Jack Nicklaus and Walter Hagen with five and Woods with four. McIlroy will play alongside Spain’s Jon Rahm and American Rickie Fowler in the first two rounds.

An in-form Scott Hend of Australia will spearhead the Asian Tour charge at the US PGA championship. The reigning Asian Tour number one fired a sparkling 63 in the penultimate round before finishing tied 10th place following a final round 73 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational last week.

Hend, who lives in the United States, will be contending for the year’s final Major championship against the elite field at Quail Hollow Club.

The live and exclusive broadcast of the US PGA Championship will be in two phases across four days on DSPORT channel as follows:

August 10: 10:30 PM – 11:59 PM (Day 1)

August 11: 12:00 AM – 4:15 PM (Day 1) & 10:30 PM – 11:59 PM (Day 2)

August 12: 12:00 AM – 4:15 PM (Day 2) & 11:30 PM – 11:59 PM (Day 3)

August 13: 12:00 AM – 4:15 PM (Day 3) & 11:30 PM – 11:59 PM (Day 4)
