A 4-year-old stray dog was beaten up and its eyes were pierced using a sharp-edged weapon by three persons in Mohali, police said on Monday.
Police said the animal was severely injured with one of the eye balls hanging out from the socket.
The three accused – Makhan Singh, Dassa Singh and Harmeet Singh – were arrested under section 428 (mischief by killing or maiming the animal) of the IPC.
Pardeep Singh, a witness to the incident, had complained to the police. According to him, when he tried to intervene, he was shooed away.
Harjot, Pradeep’s neighbour, said the dog’s face was covered in blood.”I then took her to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in sector 38 in Chandigarh,” he said.
Rakesh Sharma, a supervisor at the SPCA, said the dog lost sight in both the eyes, but is alive.
“We will now take care of her throughout her life,” he said, adding that the canine was pregnant.
Animal doctor R S Bajwa, who treated the dog, said the canine has no chance of getting its vision back
