In Boston, An Effort To Turn Summer School Into Something Students Won't Want To Miss | WBUR News

Boston summers can be a little too hot and humid for some people, especially if you are not used to the humidity. Even if temperatures in the low to mid-80s don’t sound too bad to you, the humidity really piles it on.

If you’ve just bought one of the Boston houses for sale and are wondering how you’ll do in the city this summer, we have prepared some information for you.

Here are some helpful tips on how to stay healthy during these hot and humid days.

Contents

  • 1 Get Enough Physical Activity
  • 2 Always Stay Hydrated, Even If You’re Not Feeling Thirsty
  • 3 Wear Sunscreen – on Sunny and Cloudy Days

Get Enough Physical Activity

No matter how hot and humid it is, you’ll still need to get your physical activity in, as sitting sedentary for too long is never going to be good for you.

That’s why we say the first step is to give yourself more time for your workouts. If you are in a hurry, you might end up skipping your workout all together or doing it less regularly.

If you don’t have a gym membership, try using the local parks as a resource for outdoor workouts such as running and walking. Boston has many beautiful parks that offer great scenery, so this is an easy way to get some fresh air without having to leave the city.

You do have to keep an eye on the humidity and your hydration levels, though. So that’s where we’ll get into the next pointer.

Always Stay Hydrated, Even If You’re Not Feeling Thirsty

The summers in Boston are already hot and humid. But if you aren’t staying hydrated, you could find your body in trouble pretty fast.

It’s important for everyone to stay hydrated during this time of the year.

Hydration is important for people of all ages, but it’s especially vital for children and seniors who are more susceptible to heat exhaustion and dehydration.

To avoid dehydration, you should drink plenty of water throughout the day and limit your intake of fluids at night. You should also look out for signs that someone else may be dehydrated, such as a dry mouth or skin that is cool to the touch.

Believe it or not, some people don’t much like to drink water, but it’s essential that you do in a Boston summer.

Wear Sunscreen – on Sunny and Cloudy Days

Sunny days are not the only times when you need sunscreen. It’s needed to protect your body from the sun even if it’s cloudy outside.

Sunscreen is a must-have for any person who spends time outdoors. It helps to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays that can cause skin cancer, premature aging, and even skin damage.

The most common form of sunscreen is physical, which absorbs UV light to create a layer of protection on top of the skin that reflects or blocks UV light from reaching the deeper layers of your skin. This physical barrier protects against sunburn and other types of damage caused by UV radiation.

And you’ll get a lot of sun in the city of Boston. Just beware: humidity makes you sweat, and sweat can make sunscreen less effective. So reapply it often.
