Fresh from a successful spring campaign, speedy mare Ocean Embers has booked herself a ticket to Queensland, with an eye on the lucrative Magic Millions raceday in January.
Cranbourne-based trainer Shea Eden is in the process of planning the trip up north, which will consist of the four-year-old running in a wildcard event at Eagle Farm on December 31 in an attempt to gain entry into the $1 million Fillies and Mares feature (1300m) a fortnight later.
“She’s just having a little freshen up at the water walker at the moment, and then we’re gearing up and preparing to head up to the Gold Coast,” Eden said.
“There is a wildcard opportunity, so the plan is to get her up there and give her a chance in the wildcard race, and she has to win that to head into the mares race on Magic Millions Day.
“It might mean I can get the family up there and have Christmas on the Sunshine Coast.”

The daughter of Beneteau was impressive through the grades in her most recent preparation, winning three of her six starts, including the Group 3 Cockram Stakes, and subsequently finishing fourth to Star Turn in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes.
The mare had excuses for finishing back in the field at her last start, in the Group 2 TAB.com.au Stakes, and Eden is confident she will be back to her best in Queensland.
“She pulled up a little bit ordinary after her last run at Flemington, she jarred up quite badly, and took her a good two or three days to really bounce back,” Eden said.
“She’s sound at the moment, we’ve given her plenty of time to get over that and the idea of getting up to the Gold Coast and hopefully getting that bit of rain and softer track will definitely suit.”
