Prep roundup: Spartans clinch out-right CLC title

COLD SPRING — In a game that was suspended because of weather, then postponed twice, Rocori emerged with a memorable victory in a memorable game.

The Spartans beat Brainerd 4-3 Friday to win their second straight Central Lakes Conference softball championship.

Brainerd led 2-0 in the third inning when the game was suspended. The Warriors (12-2 CLC, 18-2 overall) built a 3-0 lead. Junior second baseman Amy Schlangen slugged a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Caitlin Heinen then hit a two-run to provide the tying and winning runs in the top of the seventh.

Megan Gavin pitched the bottom of the seventh to get the win in relief.

Rocori (14-0, 19-1) learns of its playoff opponent Sunday when the Section 5-3A seeds are announced. The Spartans are likely to have the No. 1 seed.

Sartell 7, St. Cloud Tech 6

WAITE PARK — Maddie Thieschafer went 3-for-4 and Kayla Nelson drove in two runs to lead Sartell to the win at River’s Edge Park.

Sartell finishes 6-8 in the Central Lakes Conference and 7-13 overall. Tech finishes 7-7 and 9-11.

Albany 11, Milaca 1, 5 innings

ALBANY — Second-seeded Albany scored four runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to advance in the South Sub-Section 6-2A playoffs with the victory over No. 7 Milaca.

Isabelle Rolfes went 2-for-3 for Albany (15-3), which plays third-seeded Melrose at 5 p.m. Tuesday at River’s Edge Park in Waite Park. Melrose beat Holdingford, 12-6.

Chisago Lakes 2, Sauk Rapids 0

SAUK RAPIDS — Trinity Junker tossed a four-hitter, striking out 11 and walking one, to lead the Wildcats.

Samantha Patton took the loss, going the distance. She struck out four, walked one and scattered seven hits for the Storm (10-10). Brooke Torvik was 2-for-3.

Cathedral 9, Foley 5

Senior Kristen Mueller was 2-for-2 with a home run and a sacrifice, junior Andrea Decker was 2-for-4 with a home run and sophomore Megan Voit threw four innings to lead the top-seeded Crusaders (17-3) past eighth-seeded Foley at Whitney Park.

The Crusaders play fourth-seeded Pierz at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Waite Park in the next round of the Sub-Section 6-2A tournament.

Pierz 7, Sauk Centre 4

PIERZ — Junior pitcher Brittney Boser was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI and got the complete-game win for the fourth-seeded Pioneers over the fifth-seeded Mainstreeters in the Sub-Section 6-2A tournament. Pierz plays top-seeded St. Cloud Cathedral at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Waite Park.
