A new skincare range has botanical benefits that has Syahirah Mokhtazar’s skin glowing THIS Mary Kay Botanical Effects Skincare lineup is a revamped version of the brand’s previous botanical effects skincare range. Dressed up in pink and green, the new product design certainly takes on a younger, fresher look as opposed to the white and light green hues before. I’m a sucker for pretty, cute cosmetics packaging so this definitely charmed me into trying the whole set. I later discover that the pink and green colours on the product resemble the two main ingredients infused in the products, which are aloe vera and dragon fruit. This pretty much explains the aromatic, fruity scent it emits the minute I opened the lid. Cute packaging, check! Fruity scent, check! We’re off to a great start. Now all that’s left is to find out if the product would actually work on my skin. With me are five items that complete the set – Gel Cleanser, Exfoliating Scrub, Effects Toner, Moisturiser and an extra Moisturiser that contains SPF 30 . CLEANSE AND TONE The cleanser is said to cleanse deeply and act as a tool to eliminate those traces of oil on your skin. My T-zone tends to get oily, so I’m counting on this to help me combat my problem. I like how the soap is in gel-like texture, so when I lather on with water, it foams lightly. I notice that the level of oil on my T-zone has decreased slowly over time. The toner is also infused with antioxidants that will help to protect and defend the skin by fighting off free radicals. I like that it doesn’t give off a sticky feeling after I apply the toner. The moisturising gel is heaven-sent! Besides the fact that it’s gel-based, I find that it helps to improve my skin, which can sometimes get a little dry and flaky, especially around the lips. The SPF 30 moisturising lotion is said to moisturise the skin for 12 hours, on top of adding the SPF effect. While I love the scent, it does give off a slightly sticky after feeling, which I am not a fan of. The scrub is not much different from other brands in terms of using micro beads for exfoliation and having the function of fighting off dull skin but it’s still a pretty good option for a face scrub. COMBINED BENEFITS Here’s what’s great about the combination of the main ingredients infused in the skincare lineup. The dragon fruit is a super fruit also called pitaya, which contains fatty acids and several B-complex vitamins. This fruit is also full of minerals like iron, calcium and phosphorous. That’s a whole lot of goodness. On the other hand, aloe vera is one of the most nutritious plants in the world, as many would know. It helps to maintain the skin’s moisture barrier and has high vitamin E content, which is a popular antioxidant in skincare. Pair the two ingredients together and there you have it – the botanical effect. The products are said to be suitable for sensitive skin, so for those who have sensitive skin, this skincare range would be great to try. Mary Kay Botanical Effects are available through Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants and products are priced between RM65 and RM85.
