Back pain can occur due to various reasons. It can be quite debilitating and uncomfortable. Back pain can arise as a result of injury or other kinds of medical conditions. People from all different age groups and genders can get affected by back pain. However, as you grow older, you are more susceptible to lower back pain and the risk factor increases.

Lower Back Pain – Few Reasons

There are a couple of reasons which can lead to lower back pain. These are as follows:

  • Bony Lumbar Spine
  • Discs which lie between the vertebrae
  • Ligament around the discs and spine
  • Nerves and Spinal cord
  • Lower back muscles
  • Pelvic and abdominal internal organs
  • The skin surrounding the lumbar area

What are the Causes of Back Pain?

As stated, there could be multiple reasons which can result in back pain. Here are some of them

  • Ligament or Muscle Strain: An awkward movement or repeated lifting of heavy things can strain the spinal ligaments and the back muscles. For those in a poor physical condition, for them, a regular strain on the back can result in damaged muscles and tissues which can lead to back pain.
  • Ruptured or Bulging Disks: Disks are like cushions between the bones in the spine. Inside a disk, there is a soft material which can rupture or bulge and create pressure on the nerves. The best way to diagnose it is through an X-ray
  • Arthritis: Lower back can get affected by Osteoarthritis. If you have arthritis in your spine, then it can cause the space around the spinal cord to narrow down. This condition is known as Spinal Stenosis.
  • Skeletal Irregularities: This is a condition in which the spine gets curved to the side and can result in severe back pain. The chances of this phenomenon to occur increases as you grow older.
  • Osteoporosis: The vertebrae of your spine are likely to develop compression fractures if the bones become brittle and porous.

What are the Risk factors?

You are likely to get affected by back pain under the following conditions

  • Age: This is very common. You are more susceptible to back pain as you grow older
  • Lack of Work Out: Unused and weak muscles of your abdomen and back can cause back pain
  • Diseases: Some type of cancer or arthritis can result in back pain
  • Excess Weight: If you are carrying excess body weight, then it would exert more pressure on your back. This constant stress can result in severe back pain
  • Psychological Conditions: People suffering from depression are likely to develop back pain in the days to come
  • Smoking: It has been proven that the chances of quick healing reduce if you are a smoker

What are the Symptoms of Back Pain?

Here are a couple of symptoms you should look for

  • Muscle Ache
  • Stabbing or Shooting pain
  • Pain that appears to radiate downwards
  • Pain that increases with standing, lifting or walking

If you are experiencing these symptoms, then the best thing for you to do is to get in touch with a doctor. He would run a check up and would start a back pain treatment immediately.

At times rheumatoid arthritis treatment and paralysis treatment can also offer some amount of comfort to back pain.
