Chennai: As many as 132 children from eight schools participated in the first zonal event of the year-long Children Yoga Festival conducted by Satyananda Yoga Education Charitable Tradition at Narbada Devi J Agarwal Vivekananda Vidyalaya Junior College, Vyasarpadi, recently.
According to a press release, D Vijayalakshmi, senior AVP – Group Corporate Communications, Murugappa Group, inaugurated the festival and shared how yoga had a very positive influence in building her career. The day-long event comprised 12 thematic yoga skill demonstrations, oratical skills, quiz, keerthan and many more.
Children were also taught about the benefits of yoga and its important morals and values. Yoga demonstrations on varied themes, like ‘Great women personalities’, ‘Dasavataram’, ‘Krishna leela’, ‘Yoga Bharatham’, were held. The oratorical skill demonstrations included Surya Namaskar, nature and yoga and power of mantra.
Satyananda Yoga Education Charitable Trust has been conducting Children Yoga Festival in schools since 2007 to take the message ‘Yoga is Fun’. In the academic year 2016-17, the festival was conducted in about 30 schools reaching to over 40,000 children in Chennai and the suburbs. Around 1,500 children participated, out of which 380 children qualified for the zonal level. Of them, 300 children would be selected for the city-level event. The second zonal event will be held on 31 January at Kola Saraswathi Vaishnav Senior Secondary School, Kilpauk. The third event will be held on 14 February which is Children Yoga day
