It is for the first time when Yoga was inducted into the sports category to be held in All India Police Sports Meet. The candidates were selected by a panel headed by DSP Ram Gopal.
The seven Yoga players were selected from among about three dozen sportspersons. DSP Ram Gopal said the selected team will represent three different categories, under 25 years, 25 to 35 years and above 35-years. He maintained that all seven Yoga players would undergo special training session for next 20 days at police lines, Sector 26.
The trials for the other games, including handball, volleyball and judo, were under way. Sources said it is the first-ever Yoga team of Chandigarh police and chances of grabbing the medals of this team is very high due to the team members’ rigorous practice. UT IG Tajender Singh Luthra has decided to promote sports in Chandigarh police and started to introduce special training sessions for dedicated sportspersons working in Chandigarh police.
