Upward facing dog, lotus, crane? No, this isn’t that kind of yoga. But if you want a 2-in-1 tablet/laptop hybrid that promises to bend, flip and fold with ease then check out the new Lenovo Yoga 900. But don’t expect it to come cheap.
The flexibility of the Yoga 900 comes from its watchband-style hinge. According to Lenovo, their distinctive hinge is comprised of 813 individual components, and really looks quite different from most everything else out there. It gives the Yoga 900 an interesting and eye catching look. Though this particular style of hinge was also featured on the previous Yoga model.
Unlike other convertibles on the market with detachable keyboards, the keyboard for the Yoga 900 stays in place. Well, not in place exactly. With 360 degree mobility you can flip and fold the Yoga into a number of different configurations.
If you are comparing last years model to this newest addition to the Yoga line you will note that the 900 is little heavier than its predecessor, the 2.62-pound Yoga Pro 3. But the Lenovo Yoga 900 packs more power in it’s slim body so the weight trade off isn’t so bad.
Even with the added weight, the Yoga 900 comes in at around 2.8 pounds, a manageable device to carry.
Lenovo claims the Yoga 900’s 13-inch QHD 3200×1800 touch display offers vivid colors and a great view from any angle. The 13-inch screen might be on the small side. But the smaller screen size could be a plus if portability is more important to you.
To add to it’s light and easy to carry size, the Lenovo Yoga 900 is also thin. Measuring at around .59 inches in thickness, Lenovo claims the Yoga 900 is “the world’s thinnest Core i convertible.”
And it’s the new Intel Core i processor that could make this convertible worth it to you.
A step up in power from the Pro 3’s Core M, you can get up to a 6th Generations Intel Core i7 processor in the Yoga 900. Also under the hood is up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB solid state storage. The battery offers up to 9hrs of use, you will have to decide for yourself if this is a decent amount or not.
When is comes to ports the Yoga 900 offers a number of them. There are two USB Type A 3.0 ports, one USB Type C 3.0 port with video-out, one DC-in with USB 2.0 function port and an audio combo jack. In addition to these there is a 4-in1 card reader combining SD, MMC, SDXC and SDHC.
As before mentioned the Yoga 900 is not a cheap convertible option. With a starting price of $1,199 it can’t be considered a budget friendly option. If you want the model offering the full 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage expect to pay closer to $1,399.
