If the impending (or current, depending on where you live) winter chill is starting to wreak havoc on your skin (i.e. dry patches or redness), we’ve got just the trick to take it from parched to plump: an avocado face mask.

Because we’re all about easy and efficient ways to get great skin without sacrificing time, effort, etc., we’ve concocted an easy-to-make DIY avocado face mask that both foodies and beauty aficionados will love.

More DIY skin-care hacks:

  3. This DIY Contouring Mask Will Change Your Beauty Routine

Here’s what’s in it: One whole avocado (because trust—its beauty benefits are infinite), one tablespoon of olive oil, two tablespoons of plain yogurt, and one tablespoon of honey. Once you’ve gathered all of the ingredients, gently mix them together in a large bowl. And while mixing, if you’ve noticed the mix is looking a little chunky after a few stirs, that’s okay! The mask’s texture should be thick and gloppy, almost like the guac at your favorite restaurant.

Once you’ve got everything mixed to your liking, start slathering it on your face. But be forewarned: Things will get messy, so make sure you apply the DIY goo over the kitchen sink—or somewhere with a lot of towels—to avoid a scene out of a movie—not a cute one.

Anyway, leave the mask on for a few minutes before rinsing off, and you’re bound to unearth smooth, supple, and superhydrated skin—exactly what the beauty doctor ordered for a post-Turkey Day treat. It works because theavocado, yogurt, and olive oil work to bring moisture back into the skin, while the honey helps to soothe inflammation, according to Kavita Mariwalla, a dermatologist in West Islip, New York.

“Raw honey works to make inflammatory acne look less angry because it has an osmotic effect on the skin—it can draw out [excess fluid] and help reduce inflammation,” says Mariwalla. “Honey can be a calming agent, so it also helps to reduce redness.”

Who knew your favorite foods could help calm your skin? Oh, that’s right, we did. (And ICYMI, you can eat your way to gorgeous skin, too.)
