Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, was recently in Delhi on a two-day trip, along with his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker-Bowles. The royal couple arrived in India on November 8, as part of their 10-day four-nation tour that also took them to Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei. While they met several dignitaries, including PM Narendra Modi, on their short trip, the only Bollywood celebritity who got to spend time with the Prince and Duchess was Shilpa Shetty.
The actress, who is an active supporter of the British Asian Trust, met Prince Charles and his wife at the Elephant Parade India (the world’s largest art exhibition of decorated elephant statues to raise awareness for the need of elephant conservation) at the British High Commission on November 9.
Shilpa said they discussed the diverse prospects of creating better cultural ties between the two nations, and was glad to see Prince Charles’ “enthusiasm” and love for India.
She also revealed that besides other things, the royal couple extensively discussed yoga and its benefits with her. “We spoke at length on yoga and how we could popularise it in the UK. Prince Charles also spoke about extending support to my foundation that champions the cause of girl child education. He was so encouraging of the initiative,” she told a Mumbai daily.
During their two-day trip, Prince Charles and his wife also visited the Amar Jawan Jyoti and met some underprivileged children from a Delhi school.
