AN OBESE bride-to-be who refused to tie the knot in a size 24 wedding dress has shed 51kg thanks to the Keto diet.
When Breeana North’s partner proposed she knew she couldn’t walk down the aisle weighing 122kg and she refused to squeeze her obese frame into her wedding dress.
The 24-year-old from the Hunter Valley, NSW, said she kept a picture of her dream wedding gown in the back of her mind as motivation to lose weight.
And after switching to a strict Ketogenic diet — which focuses on high fat, high protein foods while cutting carbs — the inspirational bride lost a staggering 51kg and dropped seven dress sizes for her big day in October 2017.
Breeana said she felt more confident than ever walking down the aisle at a slim 71kg and wearing an elegant size six wedding dress — which needed altering as it was too big.
Her husband Tye North, 29, also went on the Keto diet in the lead up to the wedding, managing to drop an incredible 101kg — going from 250kg down to 149kg — so he could wear a tux that wasn’t specially made for his size.
Breeana said: “When Tye proposed to me, I was over the moon but a wave of sadness washed over me at the same time. I knew I wanted to marry him, but not the way we were.
“We were both so obese and had terrible eating habits. We would binge on mountains of fried food, sweet treats and drink four litres a soft drink daily between us without issue.
“I told Tye that I’d only marry him if we made a solid effort to get healthy, and he agreed.
“I’d heard of the Keto diet before but was really sceptical. I thought it was just another fad diet.”

“But I saw people having amazing results and decided to give it a go. I’m so glad I tried it because it’s worked so much better than any other diet out there.
“We’re so used to trying to avoid fat, and the thought of eating a high-fat diet was baffling. But it’s made me feel better than I ever have in my entire life.
Bride and groom drop 152kg for wedding on Keto diet
“Just a few days after going Keto, I had so much more energy. I was sleeping better, my skin cleared up and I was just happier. I knew at that point I would never look back.
“We threw out everything bad we had in the fridge and started again with Keto-friendly foods.
“Tye and I also got a personal trainer and began going to the gym five days a week. The weight just began melting off. It was incredible.”
“I felt like a princess on my wedding day. I never imagined I’d ever fit into a size six gown. I even had to get it taken in a little as it was slightly too big.
“And to see Tye healthier too after the losing the weight was such a good feeling.
“He still has a long journey ahead of him, but he is very determined. It’s so inspiring.
“We had lost a total of 152kg between us for the wedding. I couldn’t have done it without him by my side.”
Breeana, a customer service assistant, had been overweight her entire life and was bullied throughout school due to her size — which became so severe that she dropped out of school.
Breeana claims life after school only got worse as she isolated herself at home and comfort ate around the clock.
But after meeting her future husband on an online dating site in late 2012, the pair finally met in February 2013 and fell in love “straight away”.
Tye — who works as a security officer — then popped the question just seven months later in October 2013.
Breeana said she “had a really hard time” at school.
“People would throw my schoolbag in the bin, follow me home, taunt me and just make my life hell because I was fat,” she said.
“In year eleven I just couldn’t take it anymore, so I dropped out.
“I piled on the weight after that. I’d just stay inside all the time and eat.
“My parents ended up taking me to get help, and things got better.
“I’d been talking to Tye online for months but didn’t have the courage to meet up with him. I was ashamed of how I looked and just didn’t feel confident at all.
“But when I finally did, I felt like everything was right with the world. We just fell in love straight away.
“It happened all so quickly, and he proposed seven months later. But when you know, you just know.”
Since losing the weight, Breeana said she feels so liberated when out shopping and no longer needs to buy baggy clothes to hide her frame.
“I’d always just wear tracksuits or big baggy jumpers with leggings. I thought it hid my fat, but it just made me look worse,” she said.
“It feels incredible to be able to go into any store and find something in my size. I have so much more confidence.
“Doing this with the love of my life has been so rewarding. We really motivate and inspire each other.
“It was the best thing we could have done for our relationship.
“We actually used to struggle to fit onto a queen size bed, and I couldn’t even put my arms around him properly for a hug. But now we’re very passionate and closer than ever.
“I never could have done this without him and now we can look forward to a healthy and happy future.”
