How a vegan diet can help in improving your libido levels and sexual responses

New Delhi: The food you eat has an effect on all your body functions; popular saying ‘you are what you eat’ is true, after all. Your sexual health and sexual processes are just as much a part of your body and its functions, and they are also equally affected by the food you eat and the diet you follow. The sexual responses are a combination of thoughts, emotions, touch, nerve functioning, blood flow, etc. Therefore, when these responses are healthy and normal, sexual responses so are.

The three main types of diets that are most popular among people these days are vegan, vegetarian, and the non-vegetarian diet. No matter which sub-group of diet you follow, you are likely to fall in one of these three categories. According to various reports and studies, the vegan diet may be the best for you, if you are looking to improve your sexual health and sex life.

A documentary made in 2018 revealed that vegans have a better sex life. Most foods consumed on a vegan diet like dark chocolate, fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts are all known to boost blood circulation, and improved circulation can enhance your sexual responses. Dieticians also believe that eating a healthy diet, in general, can reduce the risk of certain diseases which can improve your sex drive. A healthy diet can also help you stay away from medication and improve your sexual responses and some medicines can lower libido and sexual performance.

A plant-based diet may be more beneficial for your sexual health as compared to a diet that comprises meat and dairy. A plant-based diet can in fact help in reversing the fatty deposits in the arteries caused due to the consumption of meat and dairy. This can also enhance blood flow, inevitably leading to enhanced sexual health, especially in men.

Plant-based diet comprises of foods (bananas, chickpeas, avocados, etc.) that are high in minerals and nutrients like zinc, Vitamin B.

Whole foods over junk food

If you want to improve your sex life, apart from a plant-based diet, eating a diet that comprises more of whole foods may be a good idea. Dieticians suggest that a whole-foods diet over junk food will help to maintain good energy levels, which means that your sex drive will also be high.

Eating whole foods can also increase your serotonin levels. These are directly linked with oxytocin levels. Oxytocin is also called the love hormone and is responsible for feelings of affection and intimacy, which play an important role in your sex life.
